Legal Aid Society of Columbus is hosting its 5th Annual Fresh Start Gala!
Join us in raising money for Legal Aid’s Bankruptcy Pro Bono Program. This program assists individuals and families facing severe economic hardships by providing them with education about debt relief options and legal representation when bankruptcy is the only option.
You can support the effort by attending the 5th Annual Fresh Start Gala from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on February 5, 2020 or by participating in our online auction. Auction items will be posted on Jan. 29!
The Gala, which celebrates the contributions of our pro bono attorneys, will feature appetizers and drinks from The Refectory.
The event takes place at the offices of Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, 41 S. High Street, 29th Floor, Columbus, OH 43215. Complimentary self-parking is available in the Huntington Garage.
LASC’s Pro Bono Bankruptcy Program gives people the Fresh Start they need to become self-sufficient.
Since 2012, Legal Aid has seen a steady increase in the number of calls from clients under 200 percent of the poverty line requesting bankruptcy assistance. Between 2012 and 2018, requests for help jumped from 558 to 1,276. Bankruptcy cases make up nearly 10 percent of LASC’s caseload.
In 2018, the Pro Bono Bankruptcy and By-Pass programs helped 174 people get relief from debts they could not pay, and helped them with life-changing legal problems like preventing utility shut-off, stopping wage garnishments and reinstating suspended driver’s licenses.
