Item Description
This six pound Confederate cannon ball was cast at the Confederate Palmetto Armory on Arsenal Hill in Columbia, SC. This ball was recovered from the Congaree River in Columbia in the mid 1980s at the site where Confederate munitions were dumped. Confederate munitions were disposed of by Union army troops under the command of General William T. Sherman, February 18, 1865, following the burning of Columbia.
