She is best known for her dedication to the craft and strong southern accent. In 1993, she received an Academy Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance as a mute New Zealander in The Piano. Her first big break came in the 1987 movie Raising Arizona. Other notable movie performances include Broadcast News, The Firm, Thirteen, Copycat, and A Life Less Ordinary. Ms. Hunter also has two Emmys for her starring roles in Roe v.
