Item Description

SUPPORT GIRL SCOUTS HEART OF THE HUDSON, INC. with a minimum $25.00 donation and receive these lovely collectible ornamental gates -  Size 2 1/2" X 2 1/2".

In the historical collection of the Juliette Gordon Low Girl Scout National Center are a pair of gates said to be designed by Juliette Gordon Low.  A spirited child with boundless imagination and vast creativity.  "Daisy" Gordon was a gifted artist, becoming a skilled painter and sculptor as an adult.  She wrote poetry and theatricals, which she delighted in acting out herself.

Among her many artistic talents, she had an unusual flare for metal work.  Daisy learned how to forge in England and it quickly became a creative outlet using the set of tools she made herself.  The "Daisy Gates" represent one of Juliette's extraordinary creative designs.  Embellished with sunflowers (a very popular motif of the early 1900's period) the gates commemorate her parents with monograms of their initials EKG (Eleanor Kinzie Gordon) and WGW (William Washington Gordon).  The famly story is that wielding the heavy tools made Juliette Gordon Low's arms so muscular that the next spring she couldn't wear her Paris gowns with their tight leg o'mutton sleeves.  Up until the time of her death, the gates were among Juliette's most treasured possessions.

The beautiful ornamental iron gates are now on display at the Juliette Gordon Low Girl Scout National Center in Savannah, Georgia.  The gates represent everything Juliette Gordon Low stood for and everything Girl Scouts stand for today - empowering girls to grow strong in body, mind and spirit.  Juliette Gordon Low embraced creativity and dared to express her spirit through artistic endevors.  The gates exemplify the strength she used to leave a long lasting impression of her existence in the world.
