Item Description
The 6th graders worked in groups of 3 or 4 to roll and form clay to make their own dinner plate. They used a template so the plates would be uniform. The class went through the slow process of brainstorming ideas for a theme and voting for their favorite. The themes ended up being “sunsets” and “cartoon characters”. Each group (randomly chosen) decided on how they would express this theme on their plate. The only rule was that they all needed to be different somehow. After being fired, the ideas were sketched on the template then drawn on the bisqueware. The plates were carefully glazed over 2 class periods. The underside was coated with clear glaze for protection. Yes, they are safe to eat off of, but I would be very careful with them when washing.
