Item Description

Point Reyes National Seashore Association is delighted to partner with the National Park Service, Paella del Reyes, and Marin Nature Adventures on this fun-filled family camp!

You'll be based for a weekend (Friday through Sunday) at PRNSA's Clem Miller Environmental Education Center located in the heart of Point Reyes National Seashore. Home of the acclaimed Point Reyes Summer Camp, your guests will enjoy rustic accommodations in our camp cabins, with use of our commercial kitchen, lodge and naturalist library.

Gather up to 25 of your favorite little ones, family and friends for an unforgettable retreat. Your group will be nestled in a peaceful valley just two-miles from Limantour Beach. The center includes a large cedar lodge with dining room, a library of environmental books and a touch table of natural items, a newly renovated bath house, and campfire circle. The center is a model of ecological sustainability with its own composting, recycling, solar heated water and solar panels.

Remember one of the greatest joys of childhood -- spending time outdoors discovering the wonders of nature? Recreate those moments with your children! Also included with this package is an amazing 2-hour outdoor detective adventure with award-winning naturalist, Sharon Barnett of Marin Nature Adventures

Sharon will guide your group in the art of becoming official Nature Detectives through the powers of careful observation, nature games and other clues that can tell you a lot about the world around you. With magnifying glasses and binoculars in hand, you will explore a variety of habitats around Point Reyes National Seashore.

Your group will help search for important signs of animal life including tracks, scat, tufts of fur, smells and sounds that may lead to an important discovery. Your group will also learn how to identify key plants, including the ones to stay away from, as we search out leaf shapes, sizes and patterns. This is a perfect adventure for families with children or grandchildren, teachers or environmental educators, or as a unique birthday party idea.

All Nature Detective participants will receive a Point Reyes elk patch and be inducted as official Point Reyes Nature Detectives.

Sharon Barnett is a Terwilliger Environmental Award winner for excellence in environmental education. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and sense of wonder with others, especially children -- who love her!  Known to many children as "Sharon Heron", she has been teaching environmental education for more than 10 years. A native of Upstate New York, she has a BA in Environmental Studies from University at Buffalo, an MS in Education from Dominican University and has studied ecology in California, New York, Florida, and Alaska.

Throughout the year, Sharon teaches science at Marin Country Day School and Beginning Hiking for College of Marin. She has also designed and led programs for Point Reyes National Seashore Association's Field Institute, Beaver Lake Nature Center, Walker Creek Ranch, Richardson Bay Audubon, Marin Art and Garden Center, WildCare, High Country Passage and custom tours through her own company, Marin Nature Adventures.

The fun continues back at camp with a wood fired mobile seafood paella dinner extravaganza for 25 people hosted with Paella del Reyes chef Tom Meckfessel who uses local and organic ingredients when ever possible. Guests will have chance to help Tom prepare the meal at various stages and savor the rich aromas of chicken, organic onions, garlic, broth, tomatoes, the finest saffron, smoked Spanish paprika and rice and one or all of: wild caught prawns, scallops, squid, and shellfish.

As the sun slips away your group will gather around the camp fire circle for s'mores and story telling, and then it's time to drift off to sleep.

Support your park and have an amazing Point Reyes adventure, bid now!
