Item Description

Enjoy a personal, behind-the-scenes tour of Darrow School’s historic Shaker buildings, many of them not typically open to the public. These include the 1875 administration building, the Tannery, and the historic Heyniger Memorial Library (site of the of the Shakers' Meeting House), as well as modern buildings such as the award-winning Samson Environmental Center, with its innovative Living Machine and the Joline Arts Center. Your tour includes lunch with Simon Holzapfel, Head of School (when school is in session and as scheduling permits). In addition, you will take home a complimentary bottle of Darrow’s tasty homemade maple syrup.

Mount Lebanon was the Central Ministry and largest settlement of America’s Shakers from 1787 to 1947, and is a National Historic Landmark. The Shaker Village has been named by the World Monuments Fund as one of the world’s most significant endangered historic sites, and Darrow School has been at the site since its inception as The Lebanon School in 1932 and as Darrow School in 1939.
