Item Description
“Night of the Gala” 8” x 10” framed oil painting by Peter Emerson - painted on site during setup and cocktails at the Stonington Historical Society Gala on June 29, 2019. It’s still wet!!
This painting was donated by Peter in addition to the beautiful 16” x 16” painting “Evening Light at the Lighthouse” that was auctioned off during the event’s Live Auction.
Peter is a southern Rhode Island artist wHo first established himself as a marine artist with award-winning paintings of maritime subjects, initially showcasing his talent in exhibitions at Mystic Seaport. His paintings reflect his emphasis on natural light. He says, “I strive to carefully observe the ever-changing light in order to accurately portray its beauty on canvas.”
Peter welcomes visitors at his easel and can be found painting in coastal communities throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut. In winter, he travels to Florida, specifically Jupiter Island to participate in exhibitions. He claims to be on an energetic quest to capture on canvas the “strength and beauty of vessels, buildings, landscapes and seascapes.”
Peter has been the resident artist at Stonington Vineyards on Taugwonk Road for the past several months, but year-round his work can be found at Trade Winds Gallery in downtown Mystic.
