Item Description

Matt Maust is a musician and mixed-media artist. He is the bassist and visual director of Southern California-based band Cold War Kids. After studying painting and design, Matt worked as a t-shirt designer and musician producing hundreds of drawings, collages, paintings, and photographs that would serve as the aesthetic foundation and brand direction of his paying clients—soon becoming a favorite of young designers and L.A. bands. An avid collector of vintage advertising, menus, postcards and photographs, Matt re-interprets, re-configures or re-constructs these images and texts in his own design. In the oeuvre of Joseph Beuys or Dieter Roth Maust’s obsessive creative energy has resulted in innumerable artist’s books, editions, paintings, collages, sculptures, videos, and endless drawings and photographs—many critiquing, commenting, or acknowledging contemporary culture.

Matt has participated in a number of exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles including M23, New York, Paul Loya Gallery, Los Angeles, and DDR Projects, Los Angles.

Cold War Kids is an American indie rock band from Long Beach, California. Forming in 2004 in Fullerton, the Cold War Kids' early releases came from independent record label Monarchy Music. In 2006, the band signed with Downtown/V2 and released their major label debut Robbers & Cowards to cult appeal from fans and critics. 2008's Loyalty to Loyalty and 2011's Mine Is Yours saw the band develop different musical sounds and lyrical content throughout to mixed reviews. In 2013, Cold War Kids released their fourth album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts. The band then released their fifth album, Hold My Home, in 2014. Their latest album, L.A. Divine, was released April 7, 2017.
