Item Description
This is a replica of the sculpture of the Virgin Mary sitting and sewing as found in the north ambulatory of the choir sculptures at Chartres Cathedral in France. It is 7 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide at the base and quite heavy.
During my 53 visits to Chartres Cathedral I came to know the rector, Francois Legaux (photo) quite well, often staying at the rectory during my visits and sharing meals with him.
Around two decades ago, he gave me several memorable gifts, of which this is one. It weighs almost three pounds. I don’t know if these are still available in Chartres or what they cost but it is one of my prized possessions. In addition to donating some of my valuable labyrinth art to The Labyrinth Society for this auction, I am also paying the shipping. So please bid generously. Thanks.
Item Special Note
I am not interested in giving away my valuable labyrinth art for some piddling low bid. I would like TLS to benefit, or I will choose to keep the work. I reserve the right to withdraw this item if the bid is not sufficient.
Note to artists: As part of my retirement process, I am downsizing. It seems to me that your work of art should have a new life in a new household where it can be properly appreciated. If it became part of my estate, who knows what fate it might meet. Think Goodwill.
I have loved these works and deeply appreciate the sentiment behind them, whether as a gift or a purchase. If you see your work (or your gift) in this auction and you would rather have me return it to you, please send me an email (robert at robertferre dot com) and I will make the appropriate arrangements.
