Item Description
Peder Hegland Pottery is a studio and gallery located on the Mississippi River 2 miles north of Sartell, Mn. The gallery features wheel thrown and handbuilt stoneware pottery. Peder was a student of Marguerite Wildenhain at Pond Farm Pottery.
"I have been a professional studio potter since 1976, the first summer I studied with Marguerite at Pond Farm. Even before that Marguerite influenced me through contact with two of her former students. As a college student studying mostly science, a pottery class with professor Dean Schwarz was an exciting revelation. Later, as an apprentice with Peter Deneen I was employed making pots and given the chance to attend Pond Farm. Marguerite, a true Master Potter, was in her 80's when I studied with her and her assistant of many years, David Stewart. She had an entire lifetime of pottery and life experience to share if only one had the ability to absorb it. Marguerite personified a lifestyle that stressed individual freedom with responsibility, the joy of creativity with dignity and the expectation that this was going to be difficult. These ideas have given me a solid framework for a life as a studio potter. An added bonus has been a group of potter friends I met at Pond Farm who have offered a lifetime of support and love."
