Item Description

Artwork Title: Bioluminescence
Artist: Emma E. Farrington - Emerging Artist

All information was provided by the artist in their own words.

Materials: "Hyper Striper" artwork is about 3 ft. wide x 1 ft. tall and made of .5 in. Versatex (PVC). Layered acrylic paints.

Description: My Hyper Striper, entitled Bioluminescence, is inspired by the mysterious and beautiful jellyfish, an organism that reminds me just how alien and unfamiliar our oceans are. I have always held a deep reverence for the ocean, coupled with a healthy amount of fear. Deep water has always frightened me because of how unknowable and vast it is, but that's also what makes the ocean so captivating. In my bass, I've painted gently floating jellyfish receding back into the darkness. Each jellyfish emits a soft glow, and is suspended lazily on its own plane, almost swaying back and forth with the current of the water.

About the Artist: Emma Farrington is a Studio Art major at Endicott College anticipating to graduate this May. She grew up in Essex Junction, Vermont, and has been creating art her whole life. She also runs cross country and track & field for Endicott College.
