The oldest independent elementary, coeducational school in Tennessee, Bright School is a special place where for over a century teachers, students, and parents have come together to help guide the growth and development of young children. Bright School passionately believes in the dreams of Mary Gardner Bright, who began the school in 1913 and served as its Headmistress for 48 years. She celebrated children's natural delight in learning and believed deeply in the importance of "encouraging initiative in work, play, and the conduct of school affairs." Identifying the interests of the individual child was central to her goal of motivating all children, which is reflected in our broad and rich curriculum at Bright School today. Art, music, shop, science, physical education, computer, the performing arts, and Spanish all complement the important work in our core classrooms. Learning takes place all over our campus, and within our classrooms you'll find a variety of teaching styles and learning opportunities so that all our students have a chance to grow and progress. Committed to the intellectual, artistic, physical, and moral growth of young boys and girls, our mission is to build a firm foundation upon which talented children will become wise and compassionate citizens of the world.
