South Suburban Family Shelter is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, non-sectarian social service agency whose mission is to provide comprehensive, coordinated services to families in which domestic violence exists without imposing any one solution. SSFS provides services in the southern suburbs of the Chicagoland metropolitan area, including Cook and Will Counties. SSFS services to victims of domestic violence (DV) include: a 24-hour bilingual hotline, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling for adult victims, individual counseling for child victims/witnesses, family counseling for victims and their children, parenting classes, court advocacy, and medical advocacy. Annually, we serve approximately 2,400 individuals impacted by domestic violence. Additional services to the community include: an abuser intervention program, speaker’s bureau, public education and prevention program, and professional trainings. SSFS also provides transitional housing for women with children at the Sanctuary. All services are available in Spanish and English and services to victims are provided free of charge.
