Online Auction is Open!

Following the sad cancellation of the Answer For Cancer Dinner in March as a result of COVID restrictions and the surrounding difficulties, an Online Silent Auction will be held in place of the live event.

We are grateful to the wonderful businesses and individuals who donated goods and services to this fundraiser.

The event was organised by Hair Today, Bare Tomorrow, a Geelong based group who raises much needed funds for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute (FECRI) located in Ballarat.

Hair Today, Bare Tomorrow began in 1997 as a head shave fundraiser at our local high school. Since then, we have proudly support the FECRI through a variety of fundraising events including shave your head nights, dinner dances, auctions, fashion parades, annual shopping trips plus countless others.

One of the founding members, Ainsley Dansick, sadly lost her battle with a rare muscle tumour (Rhabdomyosarcoma) in 2001. Ainsley spent a lot of her time throughout her treatment raising money for her oncologist Professor George Kannourakis research program at FECRI. The Institute relies solely on community donations and corporate sponsorship to continue their world leading research.
As group we have continued to raise funds for the FECRI as it was close to Ainsley heart.

Our key projects are in Immunology, Ovarian cancer, Breast cancer, Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Renal cancer. The Institute currently has 9 PhD students from Federation University Australia and 14 staff.

Our research continues to learn how the immune system can fight cancer. The overall focus of our program, is to determine protein targets on cancer cells that may be involved in evading the immune system, by creating a camouflaging ?fog? around these cells. It is hoped that by identifying these proteins, druggable antibody targets can be developed that would ?lift the fog? from these cells and allow the immune system to attack the cancer. With this approach, becoming the future treatment alternative to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The auction will close on Tuesday 8 June at 10am.

100% of the proceeds go to Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
