Description

Join writer and Mason-Rice parent Francesca Grossman for a 2.5-hour Personal Narrative Writing Workshop!

We all have a story to tell and usually that story is stuck somewhere inside of us. This workshop will take students from chaotic to grounded, from wild ideas to deliberate storytelling. Our goal will be to find that story and get it on the page. (Or at least to begin!) What IS the story? Where is it hiding? What do we have to do to find it and get it on paper? We will explore where personal narrative writing might come from and read a few examples from authors who do this well. Writing doesn't only come from the brain. What if, instead, it comes from the belly? Or from the heart?

This workshop is appropriate for all levels.

About Francesca:

Francesca (mom to Theo in 4th grade and Brieza in 2nd) is a writer, writing teacher, and manuscript editor based in Newton, MA. She is available for college essay support in person and online, manuscript critique, and writing workshops for all levels - both for writers and for teachers.
Francesca?s work includes contributions to The New York Times, Brain, Child Magazine, Word Riot Literary Magazine, Drunken Boat Literary Magazine, xojane, Ed Week/Teacher, among others. She graduated from Stanford University with a BA and MA in Education and from Harvard University with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a focus on Writing Education and Feedback for Continuous Writing Improvement.

She also teaches personal narrative and creative non-fiction workshops, and runs workshops on teaching writing all over the world. She works with young people on their college essays and she loves to work with writers on in-process manuscripts at any stage of writing.

She says, "The goal of all my work is to improve students' writing over time. We can all improve, and we can keep improving - there is no finish line. Through the process of feedback and revision, we can hone our skills and our voices to communicate effectively."

Francesca lives in Newton, MA with her husband and two children. She is currently working on a novel, THE NIGHT NURSE, and a memoir in progress.
