Description
Steve Mark Shatkin is an artist, fabricator and maker. He and his wife Tracie also own Tortoise Industries, Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co. and The Mark fine art gallery.
This limited edition sculpture series titled, ?Golden Flight,? is Steven?s most current work, created especially for this event. The symbolism of wings in flight invoke a feeling of ascension as well as transcendence. While we celebrate each year to honor those whom we have lost, we also carry with us eternal hope to rise above and offer healing to those who are still with us.
Hand formed using laminated aluminum sheets, painstaking care was used to extract every detail from the handmade plaster mold. The resulting aluminum form was then coated with a special mix of polyester heat sensitive powder and cured in an industrial oven at 400 degrees for 35 minutes.
The result is a single golden wing, in flight to heaven in search of its mate, permeated with translucent high and low contrast points that both capture and reflect light to the viewer. At less than one pound the illusion of ?weight,? is internalized by one?s own perspective.
A limited number of ten editions will be available. All sculptures are handmade and extremely unique from one another. Each sculpture measures 22"x22" Editions will be signed and numbered and are suitable for frame or wall mounting. Please advise if you would like a wall mounting kit with your sculpture.
Steven?s work is informed by his first hand knowledge of materials at both a tactile and molecular level. In addition to the 25 years he has spent as the director of a metal fabricating operation, Steven also holds a degree in psychobiology, and patents in environmental chemistry. While some of his creativity has been to the benefit of his art and design clients, he has saved his best for his own artworks.
Steve can be found most days at his 20,000 sq ft studio in Los Angeles working with metal, creating art, and roasting coffee.
