This Grammy Award winning Mexican-born comedian is as famous for his work as a comedic actor especially for his TV sitcom 'George Lopez' as he is for his blisteringly funny stand up gigs. Drawing on his difficult early upbringing by his strict but distant grandmother, much of his material comes from observations of this painful experience, and his life as a Mexican-American.

His fanbase is most noticeable amongst the Hispanic community, as they can relate well to his experiences. Lopez manages to tread a fine line between satire and political incorrectness when making uncompromising observations about Hispanic culture, which can make some new audiences occasionally uncomfortable. But more often than not, his fans enjoy his uncanny storytelling simply because of his huge ability to relate to them.

As well as hitting the heady heights of fame in mainstream comedy, he is is highly regarded by the Latino community for his achievements and for his extensive charity work, and was honored with the 2003 Latino Spirit Award for Excellence in Television. He was also named one of "The Top 25 Hispanics in America" by Time magazine in 2005.
