With origins in Mozambique and Portugal and extensive international experience, Carla’s lens allows her to create original and eclectic jewelry designs that enhance the natural brilliance and essence of each individual. From the organic lines and sensuality of nature, to the exquisite details of a royal crest, to the beauty and nuance of tribal architecture, Carla translates the best of her inspiration into designs that allows customers to see something for themselves and purchase time and again.
Throughout her career she has traveled the globe, exploring and interpreting its marvels into unique designs that empower creativity, inspire passion, and celebrate the beauty of every person who wears them. Known as a ray of sunshine in the business, Carla brings integrity to all she does, fully recognizing her team and their contributions. She strives to and is succeeding at elevating the quality and level of performance in the jewelry and fashion industries.
Carla got her start interning with designer Robert Lee Morris and as she honed her design craft, spent time working in various New York based jewelry houses bringing her unique lens to their businesses and enriching their offerings. In 2000, she launched Tommy Hilfiger’s costume jewelry business as lead designer working in tandem with Tommy, his divisional heads, design and sales teams. She was recruited by Liz Claiborne to direct design for the Monet division, and subsequently went on to work for Joan Rivers Worldwide. Under Carla’s 6-year direction as Vice President of Design and Product Development, she grew the Joan Rivers Classics Collections from a fashion jewelry, watch and tabletop business into a complete lifestyle brand. In 2010, she formed her first company and brand, Carla Marina, with the objective of reintroducing fashion jewelry of original design and high manufacturing quality into the marketplace. Always growing in her craft and expanding her impact, in 2013 Carla formed and created her second company and brand, SARDEiRA, which focuses on premium accessories, and fine jewelry that provides a platform for her designs to last a lifetime and beyond.
Trained at Parsons School of Design, Carla specialized in product design with a concentration in metals. In her third year at Parsons, Carla was recognized by Swarovski in their International Design Challenge, winning the High Standard of Design award for an original design concept. She has been the lead designer and has concepted, designed and overseen production for collections of renowned brands such as Etienne Aigner, Monet, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, Trifari, Marvella, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Touchstone Crystal – a Swarovski Company, Joan Rivers Classics Collection, Avon, among other Private Label Brands throughout her career. In 2009 Carla and the team at Joan Rivers Worldwide won various awards from QVC including Vendor of the Year. Carla’s designs are worn worldwide having sold in Nordstrom’s, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, QVC (U.S. and United Kingdom), The Shopping Channel (Canada), Ideeli.com as well as many of America’s favorite mass-market retailers.
Carla’s commitment to SARDEiRA, which is inspired by her origins in Mozambique and USA made, empower her to continually create exquisite designs that celebrate everything she is passionate about; creativity, quality, talent, nature, and humanity at its best.
