Artist Bio: Laurie Adams is a self-taught Colorado artist who specializes in "pique assiette" mosaic art. The French term is loosely translated as "picker or scrounger of plates." In the 1930s it was bestowed upon an eccentric Frenchman, Raymond Isidore, who obsessively collected bits of broken china and covered EVERY inch of his home and garden in glorious patterns of colorful shards.

This unique art form requires the soul of a relentless collector and embodies the spirit of unbridled expression. There is the endless foraging for the art medium: vintage china plates, broken mirrors, semi-precious stones, river pebbles, and antique beads….a true magpie's hoard. Next, the bright bits are transformed as each piece is carefully hand-cut and arranged amidst the custom tinted grout in a joyful explosion of color and texture. It is an organic process, flowing between whimsy and artistic focus. Finally, each mosaic features original artwork, embellished digital imagery or imported tiles from Mexico or Italy.

Laurie’s unique art has been exhibited at juried shows and festivals throughout Colorado and the United States. She also generously donates art pieces to raise funds for non-profit animal welfare and arts organizations.
