Description
Early on in what has now become a long artistic journey, Lorin had the luck to receive guidance and technical advice from some great artists/instructors. He attended Golden West College and later Cal State Long Beach from 1970 to 1979. In 1982, he opened his first studio in Old Town Ventura, California. These were times of experimentation and the process of his search for what to present to the viewer. After his move to the downtown area, he and a friend and artist opened a small gallery to showcase their art. During this early art making period, he drew from the American Abstract Expressionist movement for his painting approach. These artists changed how art was made and brought the international art scene to the U.S. The art he made at that time was non-representational and in a large format.
Lorin returned to Orange County in 1985 and settled in Laguna Beach. He set up a new studio in Laguna Canyon and shifted his painting style to a American Scene Painting style, greatly influenced by The Ashcan School. While working in Laguna Beach, he has shown at Forest Ocean Gallery, Verga Gallery, Festival of Art and many private space showings. He is currently represented by OC Contemporary Gallery in San Clemente, California.
In the last two years, he has made a painting style change that now blends a figurative and abstract style. For Lorin, it is a very exciting time in his painting career and he believes he is making his best work to date.
?I try to use what I have learned and experienced as an artist to bring something to my paintings that gives the viewer a different take on how images can relate to one and other.? ~ Lorin Fleming
