The site gradually increased in importance, becoming an abbacy in the 15th century. Montserrat is home to one of the oldest boys? choirs in Europe. Documents testify to the existence of a religious and music school in Montserrat as far back as the 14th century. The Escolania now accompanies religious ceremonies and communal prayers in the basilica. You will be able to enjoy their chant. The silhouette of the massif calls to mind the toothed blade of a saw, and this explains its name, for Montserrat means ?serrated or saw-toothed mountain?. At the afternoon we will stop in Igualada, the city consists of an old town, originated in the 11th century, with narrow and irregular streets, including the remains of a fortress and ramparts.
