Mona Mark, a native of New York City, received her BFA from The Cooper Union and her M.A. in philosophy from the New School For Social Research. She taught at the School of Visual Arts in N.Y.C., The Academy of Art University in San Francisco F.I.T. in N.Y.C. and at SUNY New Paltz.
Her involvement with the relationship between visual and verbal language expresses itself in her work and writing. Through painting, photography, sculpture and writing in which she explores the underlying meanings that link these forms of expression both structurally and poetically her work is continually evolving.
She is a native New Yorker now living in the Hudson Valley, Upstate NY. Her work has been shown both nationally and internationally since the early seventies by, among others, John Weber, MOMA, The New Museum and UNESCO. Her work, in the collections of Restaurant Associates was installed at Lincoln Center, New York displaying 50 oil pastels for 12 years. These works on paper have now been moved to and are on display at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Her work is also included in the collections of the Dime Savings Bank, New York, The Boston Ballet Company, Boston and L'Oreal Lancome, Paris.
Through UNESCO she attended the World Conference of Women in China in 1995 creating a project that was exhibited in Salonica the E. U. Capital of Culture in 1997. This led to another photographic project of Ex Prostitutes through SAGE (Standing Against Global Exploitation) that was exhibited in Hudson, NY. She was given three grants by L'Oreal over a period of six years to work on a photographic project on progressive prisons in Spain with the Director General of Madrid as well as a project through UNESCO celebrating women in Salonica, Greece where she exhibited her Photo Triptychs in 1997 based on her trip to China. She currently shows with Thompson Giroux Gallery in Chatham N.Y. and will be included in a show at the University Art Museum at Albany from July 9th - September 9th, 2015.
