Description

It is not every day you get the opportunity to acquire a specimen like this one.

This Zeolite contains pale green Apophyllite crystals on top peach stilbite with perfect cleavage hosted on a theolitic basalt bedrock. It was found in the Deccan Traps plateau which is one of the largest volcanic formations in the world, located outside of Mumbai, India. It measures approximately 6" on all sides.

Zeolites are noted for their lability toward ion-exchange and reversible dehydration. They have a framework structure that encloses interconnected cavities occupied by large metal cations (positively charged ions) and water molecules.

The Deccan Traps consists of more than 6,500 feet (>2,000 m) of flat-lying basalt lava flows and covers an area of nearly 200,000 square miles (500,000 square km) (roughly the size of the states of Washington and Oregon combined) in west-central India. Estimates of the original area covered by the lava flows are as high as 600,000 square miles (1.5 million square km). The Deccan Traps are flood basalts similar to the Columbia River basalts of the northwestern United States.

Do not miss the chance to make this piece a part of your collection. A truly rare find indeed!
