A Guided Tour of Armstrong Woods in Guerneville, CA ? Led by docent Mike Roa

Be some of the first people to experience Armstrong Woods after the burn, as the forest revitalizes itself!
NOTE: WE DO NOT EXPECT THAT ARMSTRONG WOODS WILL REOPEN TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL AT LEAST THE SUMMER OF 2021. IT MAY BE EVEN LONGER, AS WE WORK TO MAKE THE PARK SAFE AGAIN FOR VISITORS. YOUR TOUR IS GOOD UNTIL 6 MONTHS AFTER THE DATE THAT THE PARK REOPENS.
The tour will last two to three hours, depending on the group?s walking speed and how many questions you have?the more questions the better! We will walk parts of the Pioneer Nature Trail, Discovery Trail, and Armstrong Nature Trail, subject to the availability of the trails, starting at the Visitor Center and ending at the Picnic Area. Learn about our magnificent coast redwood forests and witness for yourselves the beginnings of our forest?s recovery from the recent fires. Bring your curiosity ? What have you always wondered about the redwoods?
Or, just enjoy a stroll in the beautiful forest as it comes alive again!
Your guide will be Mike Roa, enthusiastic Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods volunteer/docent and retired teacher. Mike has been a teacher and environmental educator for over 50 years?He has written several books on environmental education, including Redwood Ed ? A Guide to the Coast Redwoods for Teachers and Learners. He knows his stuff!
Children are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. The terrain is pretty level, and round trip distance will be 1.5-2 miles. People in wheelchairs will need to have a pusher for the gently sloping part of the trail. We are sorry, but since we will be on trails, no pets are allowed.
