It's not often that I find a nice secluded spot with a lovely view of rural PA. Frequently, I'll be perched along with my easel by the side of the road feeling a bit unsafe, cars and trucks whizzing by. However, the day I painted Country Road I came across an area that had friendly neighbors and virtually no traffic: it was next to a quiet cemetery! It allowed me to capture the beautiful view of the distant hillsides with a pretty barn and shed in the mid distance.
I liked the spot for the atypical vantage point with the foreground trees casting shadows upon the road which leads to the main subject. The figure was an afterthought - an addition I made in the studio later that day, although, as luck might have it, the farmer whose property I was painting did come over to talk to me for a bit. Nothing beats plein air painting, especially when all the conditions are perfect as was the case that day!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Roxanne works in several mediums including oil, pastel and watercolor. In addition to painting still life she paints landscapes, both locally and abroad. Her paintings explore color as well as fleeting light effects and reflect her strong connection to nature. Her works merge reality with her personal vision, a reverie that only her subjective mind?s eye reveals. These works mirror her inner life and chart the flow of time. Roxanne is an active member of the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County, and the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society.
This work is on display now in the gallery space at 3 Dots Downtown! Visit during open hours (noon-5 Tuesday-Sunday) to view this and more pieces donated by local artists for this year's Art & Chocolate auction.
