Item Description

Loko I'a Kalo, giclee print by Carol Araki Wyban.

Loko i'a kalo are taro fishponds.  Fish and poi are contained within the same flooded pond field. This pond is connected to a stream by an auwai, a combination of a dam and channel.  Water levels can be controlled to fill or empty this pond.  Removing rock from the dam sends the water downstream.

Dimensions: Framed 11.5″ x 14.5″

Item Special Note

This giclee print is part of the collection of Fish Common to Lokoea:
All fishponds have a complex ecosystem. These are just a few of the fish grown in Lokoea. We ate heartily of all the fish, crab, and shrimp, except for 'o'opu, which are sacred to Volcano goddess Pele.
