Fishing with the Makaha at Lokoea Fishpond, we rise in the early morning with the winter high tide. There is a chill in the night air. Jim and I look makai, to the sea. The ocean rises up the estuary to enter through the screened gate at our feet. The water moves into the auwai kai channel between two gates of the makaha. the auwai kai is already filled with fish.
