Item Description

ABOUT THE BEAR:

METAMORPHOSIS   “MORI”

Lite research on Native American symbolism regarding the bear.

I found the Butterfly

I saw these words.

Metamorphosis, carefree, transformer, immortality, rebirth, resurrection.

 Grace, light, soul.

Such nice words.

I thought of all the changes Easthampton has seen in just the 10 years that I’ve been here.

I see “Mori” representing the transition this city is seeing in the art and music “industry”.

Metamorphosis is change and change is the only constant that we as humans, will experience.

I saw a butterfly wrapped around the bear

I saw the bear change

All the bears in this town have transformed!

“Butterfly is the symbol of change, the soul, creativity, freedom, joy and color. Their power is transformation, shape shifting and soul evolution. They represent the element of air, quickly changing and always on the move gracefully. Butterflies are messengers of the moment and come in a wide array of colors.  It reminds us not to take things too seriously and to get up and move. They teach us that growth and transformation does not have to be a traumatic experience. It can be joyous”  Ina Woolcott

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Juli Kirk grew up knowing she would be an artist.  She graduated with a BFA and classical education from Boston University’s School for the Arts in 1982.  She took the next twenty years painting expressionistically from imagination.  In 2000 she returned to working from life and found her niche in painting portraits and sporting art. The galleries carrying her sporting art paintings on an ongoing basis are the Beresford Gallery in PA and Saratoga Springs and the Berkley Gallery in Warrenton VA.  She has continued to experiment with the integration between a realistic and expressionistic interpretation of life during this time. The resulting paintings were recently shown at the Elusie Gallery in Easthampton MA where she lives.
