Item Description

The Ross County Farm Bureau invites you to visit Ohio’s First (and Third!) Capital, Chillicothe.  This auction item begins with a one-night stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites kindly donated to Farm Bureau by the good folks at the Hampton Inn, Chillicothe.

Another highlight of this item is a gift package including the Old Canal Smoke House’s barbeque sauce and seasoned rub for use in your own kitchen, plus a $25.00 gift certificate for a visit to the restaurant located in the old canal district of Chillicothe.  These items were kindly donated to the Farm Bureau by owners Dane and Jodie Straub.

The Ross County Farm Bureau is providing two admission passes to Adena Mansion and Gardens, home of Thomas Worthington, one of Ohio’s first senators and the sixth Governor of Ohio.  The 1806-07 house, is one of only three designed by architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe (best known for his design of the U.S. Capitol still standing in the U.S.  The Adena gardens were restored in 2003 with the assistance of Peter Hatch, Director of Garden and Grounds at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.  According to historical lore, the Great Seal of the State of Ohio was based on the eastern view from Worthington’s Adena estate, featuring Mt. Logan in the background.

The Ross County Farm Bureau is also providing two tickets to next season’s performance of the outdoor drama Tecumseh!, the story of the Shawnee leader who tries to unite the various Indian tribes in response to the encroaching white settlers in the Ohio country.

And if this isn’t enough entertainment, the Ross/Chillicothe Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has provided a packet of information on things such as walking tours of historic downtown homes, Camp Sherman, the First Capital District, the Old Second Street and Paint Street areas, and Main Street Churches.  Other sites available to visit on this tour include the Hopewell Culture National Park, Ross County Heritage Center and David Nickens Heritage Center.
