Item Description
Richard Marquis has had an extraordinary influence on the development of contemporary studio glass in America and around the world. He was first introduced to glass while studying at the University of California, Berkeley in the 1960s. Unsatisfied by the limited techniques of American glass artists, he traveled to Murano, Italy, to learn from some of the world’s finest glassblowers. He subsequently shared his new knowledge by demonstrating and teaching workshops throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Richard’s work is characterized by his sophisticated understanding of color and form as much as for his humor and eagerness to experiment. As a glassblower, he has influenced an entire generation of artists by his technical mastery and the originality of his voice.
