Item Description
Another encore from NEC’s own Kitty Pell and her charming husband Tony who own an olive grove in Tuscany. Each November 1st, they take up residence in their farmhouse in Cortona and harvest the annual olive crop and take it to be pressed into the most delicious olive oil you’ve ever had. Many of their trees are over 500 years old, while some were planted 1,000 years ago or more! The grove of 300olive trees is in the process of being declared ‘biologica,’ or organic, and has been documented and assessed by the local agricultura, the first step in receiving the designation. This oil is “first press” and has the slightly piccante taste treasured by the Tuscans. It grows more mellow as it ages. While you can’t experience life quite like the Pells, you can taste their olio d’oro (oil of gold). Take home two bottles of their olio d’oro from their 2011 crop- much like fine wine, each year’s vintage tastes different due to weather, harvest, etc., but it tastes unique to the land where it is grown.
