Item Description
German-born Sibylle Peretti lives and works in New Orleans, Cologne and Berlin Germany. She received her MFA from the Academy of fine art in Cologne and was trained as a Glass Designer at the School for Glassmaking in Zwiesel, Germany.
Her work can be seen in many Public Collections including The Carnegie Museum, Corning Museum of Glass, The MAK Frankfurt, Germany, The John Michael Kohler Art Center, Schwaebisch Hall, Germany, Museum of Art, Montreal Canada, The Hunter Museum of American Art, and Het Glazen Huis, Lommel Belgium.
Peretti’s work explores the lack of harmony between human beings, nature, and our inability to achieve unity with the natural world. “It is, in my opinion, and in my practice, that through art one can arrive at some consequential solution and in a sense, heal and uncover hidden worlds in which a harmony can exist.”
Essential to her vision is a material that can express tension in its very essence. “I have used glass as a canvas since I was a student...within this format…I have found a solution. The overlay and containment of irreconcilable natures, of disease and of beauty, of intimacy and of distance, and of innocence and knowledge, have typified the search I have found most important to my work.”
