Item Description

An overview of the career of Eva Watson-Schütze (1867–1935), one the foremost American women photographers of the early twentieth century.

Eva Watson-Schütze’s career as a photographer brought her into contact with many of those who helped shape twentieth-century American culture, from Thomas Eakins and Alfred Stieglitz to the artists and intellectuals of the Byrdcliffe Arts and Crafts Colony in Woodstock, New York. Along with portraits of her esteemed friends and acquaintance, this catalogue includes important examples of her photographs from all phases of her career, as well as an essay by curator Tom Wolf, Professor of Art History at Bard College, and an introduction by esteemed gallery owner and art collector Howard Greenberg.
