DINING, NY- You will get two tickets to Red Car's Fall release Chef and Winemaker Dinner at Eleven Madison Park in New York City. You will also take home Red Car's line-up of award-winning wines (one bottle each of our fall releases that will be poured that night) and a surprise gift bag. The dinner is on Thursday, November 8, 2007. Chef Daniel Humm is creating a menu specifically tailored for Red Car's new wines. Humm was a nominee this year for Best New Chef by the James Beard Foundation. Eleven Madison Park, rated 25 out of 30 by Zagat, is a gorgeous restaurant, all class for its food, décor and service.
The wines to be poured include: 2005 The Fight Syrah, 2006 Speakeasy Syrah, 2006 Boxcar Syrah, and 2006 Boxcar Pinot Noir. The 2005 The Fight Syrah is a mighty wine, packing a wallop with blackberries, blueberries and tar, along with layers of leather, beefsteak and cherry cola. The 2006 Speakeasy Syrah is lush, graceful, silky and sophisticated, with cherries, blueberries, coffee, pepper, grass and spice. The 2006 Boxcar Syrah is big, yet balanced, tasting of blackberries, smoked bacon, white pepper and flowers. The 2006 Boxcar Pinot Noir is true to its Russian River Valley roots in flavor and structure, with raspberries, cherries, spice and tea leaves.
Red Car was founded by Carroll Kemp and Mark Estrin in 2000 with a 50 case production of Syrah from a single ton of grapes. Their intent was simple: source great grapes, make great wine and market it in an inventive, original way. They picked the name as a tribute to the streetcars of Southern California from the first 60 years of the 20th Century. The red cars provided transportation in a romanticized time and place. Since their initial wine won a blind tasting, the vintages have been selling out. Buy this lot as it may be the only way to get your hands on Red Car wines, part of Jimmy's gems portfolio.
