Item Description

Weaving the Stories of Our Lives Poster --Autographed by Laura Somersal
This image of the hands of world-renowned basket weaver, Laura Somersal, weaving one of her baskets.
The photograph is by Scott Patterson. With the permission of Laura Somersal and Scott Patterson, the National Women's History Project used this image to demonstrate the 1983 theme, Weaving the Stories of Our Lives.

Laura Somerals, has received world-wide recognition, not only for her highly skilled basketweaving, but most importantly for her dedication to teach her people's language and culture to the next generations.
It was a great honor to be able use this historic image.
This rare opportunity was made possible by one of the NWHP co-founders, Paula Hammett's close connection with the Native America community in Sonoma county.  What followed was beyond our greatest expections.
In the generous tradition of her people, Laura Someral signed copies of the poster for all the Project's cofounders and more posters for those who might join us in the future.  This is one of those very special posters.
