Item Description
"The word Buddha in Sanskrit means 'to be awakened.' Expressed in art Buddhas are not objects of worship but mirrors of our innermost being, icons of the journey from ignorance to illumination." -Ian Baker, Tibetan Scholar
This image of a Buddha is meant to remind us of our highest aspirations: to live in the present moment, to be more compassionate, generous and kind in our daily lives.
"Diamonds and Rust Buddha" is made from a vintage sewing pattern and treated with layers of paint and medium to give a "wabi sabi" feeling of something ancient and timeless. The background is textured with layers of paint that seem to glow white giving that diamond-like feeling. This small work has been lovingly created to impart the energy of the natural world to your living space.
Carole Leslie says that generally speaking it is an inclination toward simplicity that pushes her to try and integrate her practice and work, to paint Buddhas, to observe her process as she works. She gravitates toward mixed media, integrating script and words with images and colour.
