Item Description
When Chet Helms (who ran the Avalon Ballroom and Family Dog Productions in San Francisco) died in June of 2005, a group of his friends got together and formed the Chet Helms Foundation to raise money to build a memorial for him that is now in Golden Gate Park. In July of 2005, this group sponsored an auction which featured this autographed promo poster for a concert/CD release party at Cafe Du Nord for the bands The Plimsouls and Magic Christian. The poster is 11"x17" high and includes the "thanks to Chet" tributes/signatures of the following people:
- Prairie Prince - a graphic artist and drummer for acts including The Tubes, Todd Rundgren, George Harrison, Chris Isaak and many others;
- Cyril Johnson - guitarist for the SF psychedelic rock band The Flamin' Groovies and then Magic Christian;
- Eddie Munoz - guitarist for The Plimsouls and also for Magic Christian (he plays bass for MC);
- Bryan Head - drummer for The Plimsouls as well as many recording/touring acts including Supertramp, Foreigner, Marshall Crenshaw and Dick Dale;
- Peter Case - vocalist/guitarist for The Plimsouls, also a sucessful solo act;
- Paul Kopf - vocalist for Magic Christian;
- Mike Wilhelm - vocalist/guitarist for SF psychedelic band The Charlatans and then the Flamin' Groovies;
- Dennis Loren - SF graphic artist who has done posters for the Avalon Ballroom, The Fillmore, House of Blues, The Roxy, the Hollywood Bowl and has served as art director for magazines including Creem!, Goldmine and Metal.
