Item Description

Interested in research? Want to know how biologists help preserve and protect Idaho's wildlife?

TWO to THREE PERSONS will join Idaho Department of Fish and Game biologists in the field as they monitor populations of the northern Idaho ground squirrel, a federally threatened species occurring only in Adams and Valley counties, Idaho.

Choose between two types of field work: during April and May 2010, assist mark-recapture studies at intensive monitoring sites. Set live-traps to catch squirrels; work with biologists to process captured squirrels - physical exam, weight, scan for existing PIT tag, insert new tag - and release to same burrows where captured. You will then mark sites with a GPS unit, collect and catalogue fecal pellets for diet study.

If you decide you want to take this trip  during April and July 2010, you will assist in collection of pre-treatment data for habitat study. Search for and map distribution of occupied burrows to establish baseline prior to prescribed fire. Terrain is gentle to moderate. No heavy lifting necessary.

You will need to provide outdoor clothing, sturdy comfortable boots, rain gear, day pack, lunch, snacks and water. Binoculars helpful but not essential.

Winning bidders need to provide transportation to Adams County, Idaho.

Item Special Note

Note: current tetanus shot helpful but not required.

Winning bidders will be notified by Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation staff for scheduling and confirming trip dates either April 26-May 21, 2010 or July 2010.

PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the winning bid price, a 3.45% credit card fee, plus 35 cents per transaction will be applied to each item. A 6% Idaho Sales Tax will be added to the final bid price for all land-based trips. For all navigable water-based trips, no sales tax will be charged due to Federal law. All sales are final.
