Item Description
The Constellation Columba, meaning peace, is the featured design element in the Giving Ring. It is also adorned with dove, lotus flower, and elements of earth, wind, water, fire, and wood. The "giving" part of The Giving Ring is very literally the donating of $150 from the sale of each ring to a charity of the buyer's choice.
The ring's unisex design features a dramatic black background reminiscent of the vast night sky. Precious and semi-precious three millimeter gemstones are the centerpiece of this solid sterling silver ring, crafted by hand with recycled metal. The successful bidder will choose from either diamond or sapphire.
The Giving Ring.com weds philanthropy with entrepreneurship. Beginning in 2006 the project engaged fair trade artists from Nepal to produce the rings. Hundreds of purchasers became the benefactors of thousands of people in ten different countries. In the case of the ring donated to the auction the bidder will also be supporting the Shambhala Sun Foundation itself.
Company owner Susan Quattrociocchi has emphasized in the past that Giving Ring is not a non-profit. "This is a business that is in the business of supporting others." Of that which inspired The Giving Ring she says "my parents held the firm belief that you take care of people, those you know and those you don't. From the vantage point of the kitchen table they would plot solutions, with little money to spare, keeping the front door and their hearts wide open. Through technology, education and compassion, my generation's kitchen table now encompasses the globe." The Giving Ring is a fine example of conscious livelihood in action.
