Item Description

Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum in Mesa Verde National Park houses a vast collection of pottery that represents the exceptional artistic expressions of the Ancestral Puebloan people of the Mesa Verde Region.  Bring home the experience of Mesa Verde National Park and the exquisite historic pottery of the Ancestral Puebloans with this Black on White pottery ensemble which includes:

Two glazed mugs hand crafted by Ute Mountain Ute (Towaoc, CO) tribal potters exclusively for Mesa Verde Museum Association.  These mugs are exact replicas in size, shape and design of mugs showcased in the Museum.  The mugs are suitable for hot or cold beverages and should be hand washed.  The small mug holds 10 ounces and is approximately 3 inches tall.  The large mug holds 24 ounces and is approximately 5 inches tall.

Two round glass ornaments hand painted by Cortez, CO artist Tiffany Alexander.  The ornaments feature design elements taken directly from pottery displayed in the Museum.  Ornaments are approximately 2.5 inches in diameter.

Jewelry set includes one necklace and one pair of earrings hand crafted by Durango, CO artist Anna Ford.  The design featured on the hand painted ceramic pendants not only appears in a bowl in the Museum collection but is also the official logo for Mesa Verde Museum Association.  The necklace is 18 inches long linen cord with a lobster claw clasp and beaded with turquoise, wood and glass seed beads.  The earrings are approximately 1.5 inches long and hung from surgical stainless steel ear wires.

The package also includes “Layman’s Field Guide to Ancestral Puebloan Pottery: Northern San Juan/Mesa Verde Region” – the definitive guide to identifying remnants of ancient pottery in the Mesa Verde region, as well as a short primer on prehistoric pottery classification.  A must have for any Ancestral Pottery aficionado.   This handy little guide is jam packed with photographs, many of which show the pottery that the above items are based upon.
