Item Description

Dr. Kathy Obear, President, ALLIANCE FOR CHANGE Consulting and Founding Faculty of The Social Justice Training Institute, has over 25 years experience as a trainer and organization development consultant specializing in creating inclusion, team and organizational effectiveness, conflict resolution, and change management. Earlier in her career Kathy worked in Student Affairs at several universities before starting her consulting practice in 1987. She has given speeches, facilitated training sessions, and provided consultation services and coaching to top leaders at hundreds of colleges and universities designed to increase the passion, competence, and commitment to create inclusive, socially just campus environments for all members of the campus community, including Quinsigamond Community College, University of Minnesota–Duluth, Washington University, Smith College, Oregon State University, and UCLA. In addition to consulting with colleges and universities, Dr. Obear works with human service organizations, government agencies, and businesses to create inclusive work environments that value and respect the contributions and talents of all its members. Her client list includes Toyota, Human Rights Campaign, Verizon, American Friends Service Committee, MassMutual Insurance, and Wachovia Bank. Kathy is a Founding Faculty member of The Social Justice Institute, a five-day intensive professional development program for social justice educators and practitioners focusing on dynamics of race and racism. For over a decade she has passionately trained diversity practitioners and trainers to respond more effectively when they feel “triggered” and to navigate difficult dialogues and triggering events with greater competence.

Item Special Note

Time Frame of Service Offered
One hour keynote – or, up to two hours of a workshop presentation on the same day. Other formats such as additional breakout sessions and consultations may also be offered and negotiated between the Speaker and the campus.

Type of Audience 
It is preferred to provide the Speaker with a multi-school conference or professional association conference where a diversity of colleges or organizations is present.  Single campus events, staff presentations/training or conferenceare to be negotiated in advance prior to bidding.

Scheduling
All speaking engagements are to be scheduled within 12 months of the close of each Showcase and payment made to the Foundation at the close of bidding or upon invoicing (unless other arrangements are made in advance with the ACPA Foundation Treasurer.) Conversations about availability and scope of the services are encouraged between potential bidders and the speakers in advance of the Convention.

Travel Expenses
An additional $500 is payable directly to the Speaker for travel expenses and/or as otherwise negotiated by the university directly with the speaker.
