Item Description

Born from two prestigious Napa Valley vintners, the Opus One Wine label represents the legacies of both the Château Mouton Rothschild and the Robert Mondavi Winery in one bottle. Robert Mondavi’s son Timothy and the Château Mouton Rothschild winemaker, Lucien Sionneau, created the first vintage of this partnership in 1979.  The joint venture has become legendary and the resulting wine, coveted.  The partnership’s patriarchs, Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild entitled the creation, opting for a Latin name to ensure that the label would be recognizable in both America and France.  They agreed on the appropriate musical term – “opus” – as this wine is the masterwork of great artists.  In 1984, the 1979 and 1980 vintages were Opus One’s first releases, raising the standard for fine wine across America.  These first vintages became America’s first “ultra-premium” wines, with prices exceeding $50 per bottle.  The wine label gradually spread throughout the world and has achieved success and devoted patrons since the years of its initial creation.

With this auction item, the winning bidder will receive the exclusive experience of a three-year vertical of Opus One Wines, vintages 2005, 2006 and 2007.  This flight will allow you to taste the subtleties of Opus One’s flavors and tones, highlighting the contrasting and similar qualities of the wine during this three-year span of production.
