Item Description
Rocky Mountain PBS and Walt Pourier, owner of Nakota Designs collaborated on this mask to promote the RMPBS documentary, Urban Rez. Premiering in winter 2102, Urban Rez tells the story of 1950s American Indian Relocation policies that encouraged Native people to leave their homelands and relocate to such urban areas as Denver, for a ñbetter life. Poureir, an Oglala Lakota, emphasizes the relationship between urban and reservation life in this mask. The design is a slight play on the masks of the Southern and Northern tribes. The city skyline graphics and teepee triangles illustrate living in two worlds, as does the plane and bird graphic.
