Item Description
Tinkertown is open for the season and celebrating 30 years as a museum!
This is the perfect Tinkertown fan package. It includes EIGHT passes to the beloved East Mountain creation of the Artist and plus the following books: The Tinkertown Story, or: Live Life as the Pursuit of Happiness by Ross J. Ward and Carla Ward, Ten Years Behind the Mast: The Voyage of the Theodora R by Fritz Damler and Emily Finds a Dog – A Tinkertown Tale by Carla Ward and Megan Ward
PLUS: Leaving Tinkertown by Tanya Ward Goodman due out from UNM Press in August. This memoir by Ross Ward’s daughter chronicles his last years and the experience of caring for a family member with early on-set Alzheimer’s disease. (This will be sent to the winning bidder directly from UNM Press)
It took Ross Ward over 40 years to carve, collect, and lovingly construct what is now Tinkertown Museum. His miniature wood-carved figures were first part of a traveling exhibit, driven to county fairs and carnivals in the 1960s and ’70s. Today over 50,000 glass bottles form rambling walls that surround a 22-room museum. Wagon wheels, old fashioned store fronts, and wacky western memorabilia make Tinkertown’s exterior as much of a museum as the wonders within.
Inside, the magic of animation takes over. The inhabitants of a raucous little western town animate to hilarious life. Under the big top, diminutive circus performers challenge tigers and defy gravity while the Fat Lady fans herself and a polar bear teeters and totters.
Ever a work in progress, Tinkertown is ready to inspire your imagination and awaken your creative spirit. We look forward to seeing you soon!
In February of 1998, at age 57, Ross was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and passed away November 13, 2002. The Ward family, including wife Carla, a graduate of UNM class of 1972, continues his legacy by maintaining and running Tinkertown in his memory.
This season is Tinkertown’s 30th and something is always happening at the museum. In the spirit of Ross’ adage: “The show must go on!”
