Season 3 “The Voice” Contestant Cody Belew Releases “Say Love,” to Benefit Heifer International

Belew's new single, "Say Love," released April 1, but he says "hunger is no joke."

April 1 saw many people falling victim to one prank or another, but Cody Belew, a contestant from NBC’s “The Voice,” is serious about hunger. Belew will release his new single, “Say Love,” on April 1 to benefit the work of Heifer International, a global nonprofit working to end hunger and poverty.

On “The Voice,” Belew was a fan favorite for his outgoing and magnetic performances, but it may come as a surprise to learn that he was raised on a family farm in Arkansas taking care of animals and the family’s land. Belew understands the importance of hard work and giving back to his community and vowed early on to use his voice–literally—to help others.

“I have dreamed of finding a tangible solution to hunger and its shadow over the world since I was a kid growing up in rural Arkansas,” Belew said. “I was always aware of Heifer, growing up near its headquarters, but when I began to study their mission as an adult, I realized that they have a tangible solution—a working model—already in place.”

Belew was inspired to write the song “Say Love” and commit its proceeds to benefit Heifer International’s work. “I wrote this song as a call to action. We are one humanity; when one starves, we all starve in some way.”

The song wasreleased on iTunes on April 1—April Fool’s Day, but Belew says with a thoughtful smile, “hunger is no joke.”

Belew recently traveled to witness Heifer International’s work and meet project families in Ecuador and the Arkansas Delta in the United States. His photos and travel tweets can be seen at @Heifer and@CodyBelew.

Supporters wanting to join the #SayLove movement can visitwww.heifer.org/saylove. There,  they will find a link to the song on iTunes,  and be able to view Belew’s Say Love music video, buy a #saylove T-shirt, join “Team Cody” to raise funds for Heifer and find out more about Heifer’s work and Belew’s passion to end hunger.
