Retreats & Vacations
Join the 21-day pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, June 3 to 24, for the 2014 Great Horse Year Festival, a happening once only every 12 years.
In Tibetan pilgrimage practice, it is said that circumambulating Mount Kailash once during the Year of the Horse is karmically equivalent to completing 12 circumambulations. Join organizer and guide Michael Sheehy, Jonang Foundation, and fellow pilgrims on this spectacular 21-day tour.
Foundation staff host the pilgrimages and organize all aspects of the tour: accommodation, transportation, expert leaders and local guides.
Each person in the group will fly to and meet-up in Chengdu, Sichuan. All participants will stay in the Holiday Inn in Chengdu. The group will then fly to Lhasa and embark on the pilgrimage from there. See the full itinerary at www.JonangFoundation.org/pilgrimage.
Each participant will be guided through the trip logistics once enrolled. This includes learning about how to prepare for the altitude, as well as physical and mental preparations. The trip leader talks to each person on Skype or the phone to aid this preparation and there is a group email forum setup to facilitate preparatory discussions.
If you prefer to have your own sleeping accommodation, that can be provided. The single supplement cost is $599 per person. This is not included in the auction price or the regular cost, but is a supplemental cost. Otherwise, all participants will share accommodation with a fellow pilgrim of the same gender for no additional cost. See the pilgrimage page.
Jonang Foundation works with the living Jonang tradition in order to support the Jonangpa inside Tibet as well as to promote understanding of this little-known Tibetan Buddhist tradition through research and scholarship.
