Item Description

This canvas portrait features the historical Barons House that was located in Concordia, KS.

A brief history on the Barons House:  In 1888, Samuel H. Barons came to Concordia and bought the hotel property of Randall & Crill.  Over the years, Samuel made many renovations to the house including a servants' quarters addition, a basement addition, an equipped barbershop, a laundry, and a balcony with iron columns and railing.  He also connected a livery stable to the house.

The Baron's House was located at 5th and Washington in Concordia, KS.  The building was a large stone structure with mansard roof and beautiful hard wood finishings.  The house essentially became known as the Barons Hotel which had eighty guest chambers aside from the handsome parlors, large dining rooms, and offices.

In 1902, Mrs. Barons sold the "Barons Hotel" to C.H. Martin who maintained the hotel for many years after.  The hotel was a very popular place to stay for those traveling through Concordia over the years.  That particular hotel was known for its superior comforts and accomodations.  It was the central resort of many commercial men and the permanent residences of their families.
