Item Description
On Penobscot River, off Winterport, a tug pulls a raft of lumber vessels upstream. Original painting; framed, measuring 20" x 18".
Born in 1927 and raised in Bronxville, NY, Victor Mays received a B.A. from Yale in 1949. His earlier career centered on writing and illustrating books for young people, magazine illustration and Naval service. His work is in the Children's Literature collections of the Universities of Minnesota and Southern Mississippi, museums and private collections. Since 1978 he has devoted himself to portraying American and British sailing vessels and small craft of the past. Mr. Mays is a retired naval Captain and Fellow Emeritas of the American Society of Marine Artists.
