Welcome to Kohala Divers, a PADI 5 STAR dive center on the sunny Kohala Coast! We have been servicing your underwater needs from the same location for over 25 years. We are located in the Kawaihae shopping center just 10-15 minutes north of many major resorts such as the Marriott Waikoloa, Hilton Waikoloa, Mauna Lani, Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Kea Resort and the Hapuna Prince Hotel.  Kohala Divers is equipped with your entire Rental and Retail needs including SCUBA, snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boards and more. We also stock a large selection of surf and beach wear.

The Big Island of Hawaii is known for its crystal clear waters, its huge variety of fish and invertebrate life, an abundance of green sea turtles, white-tip reef sharks, manta and eagle rays, varieties of dolphins, whales and more.  The Kohala Coast, located on the NW side of the Big Island of Hawaii, offers all this and more.

The Kohala Divers Style

 At Kohala Divers we keep our groups small and our profiles flexible. We like to get to know our divers and cater the trip to your abilities and interests. 

We encourage divers to slow down, relax, get neutral and let the dive unfold. Mellow breathing allows you to hear dolphin clicks as they pass overhead and Humpback whale songs surrounding you in winter. A slow pace brings your awareness to the hidden, tiny critters while not scaring away the fish and larger turtles, sharks and rays. The feeling above and below the water is never rushed and always fun!

 We hold a great respect for the reefs that we visit daily and we have a no touching policy regarding coral, fish, octopus and other sensitive marine life. Our experienced crew is very knowledgeable about local fish and invertebrate life and give extensive pre-dive briefings about gear and boat policies, dive profiles, site features, and detailed marine life information. We have a beautifully healthy coral reef system on the Kohala Coast and are dedicated to keeping it that way for generations to come. 

Morning Snorkeling or Ride Along - PLEASE CALL FOR AVAILABILITY Depart from Kawaihae Harbor aboard the Kohala Diver. Cruise to the first snorkel site. A 10-35 minute boat ride to the first location provides great site seeing opportunities. Snorkel at one of the  beautiful reefs along the Kohala Coast (or Scuba Dive at an additional charge). After your first snorkel, enjoy light snacks and refreshments. Listen to whale songs and sounds  on our professional hydrophone and then head to another great snorkel site. Includes quality custom fit snorkel gear, juice, water and cookies. Maximum 15 guests aboard.

Afternoon Whale Watch 
 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Details: Meet at 1:30 pm and return around 4 pm to Kohala Divers. Depart from Kawaihae Harbor on a cruise  in search of Humpback Whales aboard either the Kohala Diver or the Reel Screamer (based on group size). Our knowledgeable crew will share interesting facts about our migrating visitors. Encounters often include Humpback Whales and their calves displaying breaches, spyhops, tail slaps and more. Dolphin pods  can often be found along the coast as well. Our professional on board hydrophone  picks up sounds and songs of the whales in the area.  Includes juice, water and cookies. Maximum 15 guests aboard the Kohala Diver and maximum 6 guests aboard the Reel Screamer.
